Alcohol or Drug Problem: Signs & Symptoms
If one or more of the following apply to you, then you may have a substance abuse problem:
- Using substances to calm nerves, forget worries, or improve mood
- Feeling guilty about using substances
- Unsuccessful attempts to decrease or stop substance use
- Lying about or hiding substance use
- Causing harm to oneself or others as a result of substance use
- Needing to use increasingly greater amounts in order to achieve desired effect
- Feeling irritable, resentful, or unreasonable when not drinking/using
- Experiencing medical, social, family, or financial problems due to use
